Title: Laboratory of Microprocessors and Digital Systems
Type Details: The Laboratory is mainly/actively involved in the implementation of digital systems using the most advanced and modern technology available, ranging from microprocessors and microcontrollers, signal processors, special purpose ICs and FPGAs, to the actual design of VLSI Application Specific ICs (ASICs). The laboratory has specialized in the implementation from chip level up to complete systems.
Research and development in the Microprocessors and Digital Systems Laboratory
is mainly focused in the following areas:
- Implementation of Digital Signal Processing algorithms
- VLSI implementation of multiplier and digital filter circuits
- Implementation of generic circuits for arithmetic operations featuring special purpose architectures and systolic arrays
- Automated design of embedded and digital VLSI systems
- Microprocessors and microcontrollers-based systems targeted at Data Acquisition and Automation applications, as well as the design and development of biomedical systems
- Implementation of Building Management System (BMS) and networks (fieldbusses) for data transmission in industrial environments
- Implementation of telecommunications systems. Examples include the following:
- Implementation of an Ethernet MAC controller
- Implementation of an interface between a microcontroller and an Ethernet controller (TCP/IP)
- Implementation of a PBX capable of routing multiple networks such as Ethernet, PRI, USB etc., using Digital Signal Processors (DSPs)
- Implementation of the RSA Cryptographic Algorithm in FPGAs.
