Project Proposal
Title: wearIT@work - Supporting Mobile Work Processes
Type Details: At the moment, mobile information techniques (IT) are widespread and IT solutions for mobile activities have already been conceived. Up to now, these were predominantly realized in analogy to traditional desktop computing. The Desktop PC on a belt prevent looking at areas of application lying beyond office work which might otherwise be efficiently supported by alternative solutions from information and communication technology. A change of perspective however, from the well-known desktop metaphor towards the characteristics of mobile work processes and mobile activities, reveals the hitherto unused potential. One such change of perspective is the paradigm of wearable computing (wearables)which is focussing on adequately supporting mobile activities. This goal is achieved by realizing the concept of the casual use of a mobile IT system and adapting it under inclusion of the mobile context to the task and the user. Details: The Center for Computing Technologies (TZI) is part of the University of Bremen. It is dedicated to application-oriented research and development in computer science. The goals of the TZI are: transfer of computing technologies to applications by projects with industrial and commercial partners, development of innovative application-oriented technologies, interdisciplinary cooperation projects, application-oriented classes and projects for students. The TZI comprises five departments with more than fifty scientists, many of them at the Ph.D. level. The TZI covers a broad spectrum of scientific research and system development. The application-oriented projects in the TZI and the basic research activities in the university groups guarantee successful research and development (R&D) projects. The activities of the TZI include prototype development, contracted research, feasibility studies, consulting, seminars for the transfer of proven technologies into practical applications. The main goal of the TZI is the development of computer science technologies and their transfer into applications. Commercial partners are encouraged and actively supported to jointly develop TZI prototypes into marketable products.
