EEMBC benchmarking is the topic of three high-profile conference presentations taking place this month in Silicon Valley. Fall Processor Forum - October 6 "Benchmarking x86 Processors for Embedded Markets" at the Fall Processor Forum in San Jose on October 6 brings together industry leaders for a spirited discussion of the comparative benefits of application-based versus synthetic benchmarks, and the specific advantages of benchmarks funded by industry consortia such as EEMBC versus private organizations. EEMBC President Markus Levy will be among the participants, which are also expected to include representatives of AMD, Synchromesh Computing, Transmeta, and VIA. Kevin Krewell, Microprocessor Report editor-in-chief, will lead the discussion, which begins at 4:35 p.m. on Wednesday. Further information: http://www.mdronline.com/fpf04/. ARM Developers' Conference - October 20 and 21 Markus Levy will describe the performance merits of the ARM11 processor family in "Analyzing ARM Performance with the EEMBC Benchmark Suites," a presentation at the ARM Developers' Conference in Santa Clara. Levy's presentation, which will detail the performance tradeoffs associated with system features such as different cache sizes and memory bus speeds, begins at 10 a.m. on October 20. The following day, Levy and ARM's Graham Wilkinson will show in "Grinding Up Java" how EEMBC's Java benchmarks can be used to analyze the performance of Java-based games in SmartPhones, in turn providing a better user experience and a greater return for network operators charging for this functionality. This second talk begins October 21 at 10:50 a.m. Further information: http://www.arm.com/developersconference/. Unsubscribe from this mailing list: http://www.eembc.org/benchpress.asp
